Where Goblin felt like an attempt to shoehorn the whole of Odd Future’s nihilist aesthetic into a single album, Wolf pulls back the curtain and reveal the talented introvert behind the music. A lot has changed, and now Tyler returns with Wolf.

As a group, Odd Future embarked on a series of tours that connected them with an expanding base of teenagers and outcasts even as they drew fire from LGBT advocates, women’s groups, and a music press none too amused by the macabre content of their lyrics. In the two years since Goblin’s release, Earl Sweatshirt returned from Samoan exile, Frank Ocean opened up about his sexuality in a heartfelt Tumblr note and released the Grammy Award winning Channel Orange, and Tyler unveiled " Loiter Squad", an absurdist late night sketch comedy show. His debut album, Bastard, was filled with sharp darts for rap blogs who wouldn’t post his music, while his sophomore album, Goblin, wanted desparately to prove Odd Future was worth all their sudden hype. An early song of Wolf was leaked, and was stated to be created in 2009.Odd Future ringleader Tyler, the Creator has a rap persona pitched between shock-riddled misanthropy and confessional reflection he’s preoccupied with his own press and he uses his music as a vent for anger and frustration. During the Goblin era, he has stated that Wolf would be his next album and soon it was released unto the scene in April 2nd, 2013. Wolf was first mentioned on Tyler's formspring as early as 2010, saying that he would have an album titled Wolf. The themes of Wolf range from "struggles with women, not handling the absence of his father to misunderstandings about his grandmother's death, and the beautiful nightmare known as fame." "It is incredibly dark as with his previous albums though, Tyler weaves this intense imagery into an upbeat sound." Background On my third album, I have money and I'm hanging out with my idols. In an interview with SPIN magazine, Tyler expressed wanting to shift away from the themes of his previous albums stating, The production has been said by Tyler that it'll sound similar to the neo-jazz band, BADBADNOTGOOD, which he (and Earl as well) have collaborated with in the past. Content ĭuring August of 2011, Tyler mentioned that the album will contain less rapping than Goblin and Bastard. This was due to Tyler's shifting interests in music, straying from rap. The story heard in Wolf will be fully revealed with Wolf (movie). From what the album reveals, it revolves around 3 main characters Wolf, Sam, and Salem. The content of Wolf was different than the previous entries, now less violent and focuses on themes relating to his fame, girls, and more. The album was released on April 2, 2013, by Odd Future Records and RED Distribution under Sony Music Entertainment. Wolf is the third entry onto Tyler, The Creator's main discography of albums.
